Armitage
the Third

and Info

Ross Sylibus is somewhat stereotypical human at the beginning of Polymatrix.
Since robots killed his partner and in the process destroyed on of his leg's, he
hates them. Ironically with each incident, he is becoming more of a robot
himself. His story starts off as he is leaving the airport on Mars. He finds himself
in the middle of a shooting spree concerning the last country western singer in the
galaxy...which turns out to be nothing but a robot. He gets partnered up with
Naomi Armitage, a sexy police officer who turns out to be a secret breed robot
herself. But, by the time he figures it out, he has already become smitten
with Armitage and is completely willing to help take down the murderer.
The movie, to most seems like a tale of darkness and hate. A tale of man
hating that which it helped create. Although I also thought this the first
time I saw it, I feel slightly different about my former opinion as of now
(especially after the events that took place here in the US). The tale to
me has become more of how a person comes to love and understand that which he
used to hate.
In
the second movie, Ross' character develops very little, his opinions are very
much the same as at the end of the first movie.

Naomi Armitage, had a semi-typical upbringing. Her father loved her and put her
into school with the other humans, but all was not well, for she figured out
that she was not quite human, and thus became the a loner and very awkward
around other robots.
Her story begins as Ross is leaving the airport. She fires at Rene
D'anclaude, the murderer of the last country singer. She gets partnered with
Ross, and together, the two track down and eliminate D'anClaude.
Near the end of Polymatrix, she finds her father and he tells her the purpose of
her life. Ross and Armitage admit their love for each other, and in the morning,
leave to fight against the oncoming army.
During
the second movie, Armitage realizes that she can't run away from her heritage,
and also learns about the importance of family.
Yoko:
Yoko
is the daughter of Armitage. We first see her in Dual-Matrix, at the age
of four. She is kidnapped and during her rescue, she reveals that she is
smarter than most kids her age. She starts off fearing robots, but in the
end accepts that her mother is a robot, and that Armitage loves her.
Info:
•Seconds:
Seconds are the workers of modern society. They work as secretaries,
runners of daycares, pleasure bots, and many menial tasks. They slave
away, and are treated badly because many humans lost their jobs to the
seconds. They are easily characterized by an on/off switch on their
forehead.
•Thirds:
Thirds are illegal robots created by Professor Azakura. There are only two
models of Thirds; Armitage, the female, and Pluto/Julian, the male.
Although there are many copies of Armitage, only one (Naomi, the main character)
is capable of reproducing with a human. Pluto/Julian who is also one of a
kinds was created to reproduce with the Armitage robots, but he was killed
during the first movie. He lives as data in hyperspace in the second
movie.
•Fourths:
Fourths are only found near the end of the movie Polymatrix. They are very
little like humans, in fact they resemble 8 foot trees with faces. They
cannot talk and their only purpose is to tend to the greenhouse that Asakura had
created. The greenhouse is destroyed in the first movie, but Asakura tells
one of the Fourth's to get the vital information into a storage facility.
Since there are no Fourths in the second movie, I think it is safe to assume
that either nobody has found the data to create the Fourths, or that the data
never made it out of the greenhouse.
